Sawada Beach Irabu-jima Island, Okinawa Japan

This beach on Irabu-jima Island is on the list of the top 100 most beautiful beaches in Japan. During low tide the ocean retreats and reveals a fascinating landscape. On the West side of the beach you can have a look at the traditional art of fishing with nets.

In 1771, there was a big Tsunami here and big waves brought large rocks to the beach. Swimming is a bit difficult at Sawada beach as the water is very shallow for quite a distance from shore. Yet Sawada beach was chosen one of the top 100 beaches Japan because of the beautiful views of the setting sun. There is a toilet, showers and even camping at Sawada Beach so bring the BBQ and watch the sunset for a few nights.
