lake manko naha sightseeing

Lake Man (Manko), covered with mangrove woods on the boundary of the city of Tomigusuku, Lake Man, is an area of wetlands in Okinawa located between Naha, Okinawa and the city of Tomigusuku Okinawa. Lake Man is within Manko Park and despite being called "Lake Man", it is actually a wetland not a lake.

Lake Man can be seen when traveling from Naha Airport to Naha city. Since the 1960’s when mangroves were planted the lake has transformed in to a tidelands. Many birds use Lake Man as a stopover point during migration such as shorebirds and plovers. In 1999 this area of Naha Okinawa was designated a wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, someting Naha and all of Okinawa Japan is very proud of.
