The Port of Hirara

The Port of Hirara is located on the northwest coast of Miyako Island. Surrounded by Ikema Island and Cape Nishihenna to the north, Irabu Island to the west, and large barrier reef to the southwest, the Port of Hirara is a good harbor with some of the best natural conditions on Miyako Island.

The Port of Hirara was once known as Harimizu Harbor. After regular commerce with the Chuzan dynasty (Ryukyu dynasty) began in the distant 14th century, the port enjoyed popularity as Miyako's only good natural harbor and established itself as a hub in the transport of cargo and people.
