German Culture Village Ueno, Miyako-jima

Miyakojima Okinawa German Culture Village Ueno, Japan

The origins of German Culture village date back to the 1800’s when locals rescued a German crew from a shipwreck off the Coast of Miyakojima Island. Later a replica of the ship was built to commemorate this event and a strong relationship between the people of Miyakojima and Germany was born.

Now Ueno German Culture Village features a replica of the German Castle Marksburg, containing the `Museum of Philanthropy`. Also on the grounds of the theme park is `Kinderhaus` a place for children to experience fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, Parts of Berlin Wall, and many German toys. The theme park also features an underwater observatory, boat rides, and a heated pool. The over all idea of Ueno German Culture village is to combine German culture with the magnificent beauty of Miyakojima Island and it does this brilliantly.
