Yubu-jima, Iriomote Island Okinawa Japan

This small island is situated next to Mihara Village, on the eastern side of Iriomote Island. The water that divides Yubu Island from its larger neighbor is so shallow it can be crossed on foot. Although it is possible to walk across most people who visit Yubu Island elect for a ride in the popular yet slightly antiquated looking water buffalo taxi. Occasionally you can see cars or trucks driving across the water as well.

Once on the island sightseers can simply take in some of the natural beauty or visit the botanical garden. Getting around the Yubu Island is quite often also done by water buffalo cart, making for a fun experience and interesting story to tell.
