Women Only Eisa Festival, Kunigami-son

This long running traditional festival was once much a part of Northern Okinawa in the Kunigami Village area but now is only performed by the women of Yona.

Know as "Shichi Gachi Maii" the Eisa festival is performed by a group of women in a circle singing traditional songs while accompanied only by the rhythmic beating of drums.
One of the unique characteristics of this women only Eisa festival is the performers hold a towel in their hand and wave it around while singing.
