Ryusen - Bingata Craft Shop
Shuri Ryusen is one of the historical Okinawa Bingata Craft Shop.
Bingata means Okinawan traditional resist dyed cloth. Shuri Ryusen has been in business for 36years in Okinawa. Founded by Mr.Yamaoka who was a creator of Kyo-Yusen dyeing and a researcher of natural plant of dyeing. He also create a new dyeing method of using coral. He has since passed this successful business on to his daughter Ms.Oshiro.

Bingata is generally bright colored and features various patterns, usually depicting natural subjects such as fish, flowers and water. Bingata is worn during traditional Ryukyu arts performances and historical reenactments.
At Shuri Ryusen, there is a place where you can dye your own T-shirt or bag or apron. They use coral to dye your cloth and it usually takes 30min to 40min meaning you can take your creation home with you the same day.
You will have a good time just shopping for your own kimono or try something different on your own.
