Onna-son Youth Eisa Festival

This long running Eisa festival in Onna-son Village Okinawa, started back in 1973. Twelve to fifteen youth Eisa performing groups from all over Onna-son gather together for this grand event that bring the entire village alive. Starting at sunset in the Onna-son community square the enthusiastic groups dance and sing the night away to the rhythm of Eisa. Parading through different streets of the village each youth group consisting of members aged from Junior High school student to performers in their 20’s, showcase their different styles and variety of songs. After all the Eisa is done almost everyone in Onna-son village gets together and starts dancing the kachashi, a traditional Okinawa dance. As with most Okinawa festivals everyone is welcome to attend and participation is always encouraged even if you don’t know what you’re doing.
