Yomitan Okinawa, Japanese Major League Baseball Spring Training Camp

Each year sees many Japanese MLB teams migrate to Okinawa for spring training camps. Yomitan plays host to the Chunich Dragons minor league team at Heiwa-no-mori Stadium, while near by Chatan extends the welcome matt to the main Chunich Dragons baseball team.

Spring training season in Yomitan and all of Okinawa is a big deal as there are no Okinawa Major League Baseball teams. Many locals are big fans of the baseball teams that train in their part of Okinawa Island or on some of the other islands like Kumejima or Ishigaki. Spring training is a great chance for fans of Major League Japanese Baseball to see exhibition games played between their favorite baseball teams. Some years other countries like Korea send their professional baseball clubs to set up training camps in Okinawa’s warm winter weather and the exhibition games played between the Japanese baseball teams and the Korean baseball teams are always exciting.
