North Okinawa

The Northern Part of the Okinawa Main Island (Okinawa Honto) has the majority of the hotels and resorts on Okinawa yet is the least populated area on the island. With the resorts comes one of Okinawa’s greatest assets the beautiful beaches. Many of the resorts and hotels share these wonderful beaches with the public for free or sometimes a small fee.
Along with the natural beauty of sandy shores and cobalt blue or emerald green seas North Okinawa also features some of the best wilderness and nature on the main island. So if you like the great outdoors you’ll want to take a hike up Mt. Yonaha, go jogging in Kenmin no mori - Forest park, watch the sunset over Manzamo, or go diving at Maeda Misaki just to name a few of the choices.
The North of Okinawa Island has many attractions, theme parks, zoos, and other great family fun spots. People on this part of Okinawa are very proud of their heritage as can be seen in the themes of many of the sights and festivals.
The real big attraction in the North of the Okinawa is of course Ocean Expo Park, featuring Churaumi Aquarium one of the world largest such facilities famous for housing whale sharks. The park also has free dolphin shows, sea turtle exhibitions, many marine life demonstrations, gardens, historical village, and beaches.
| Onna Village One of the most popular resort hotel travel destination in Okinawa, Onna village over looks the East China Sea to the west and is blessed with, beautiful coral reefs, cobalt blue ocean views, and pristine white beaches. Onna-son’s industries are tied into tourism such as retail shops, the service industry, and crafts. |

Nago City the largest city in the northern part of the main island. Best known for being the first place in Japan to have cherry blossoms each year, crowds flock here each year in late January to take part in the cities huge Cherry Blossom Festival. Nago also play host to many theme parks like Nago Pineapple Park, Nago paradise, and Neo Park. |
| Motobu Made up several smaller villages now incorporated into the town and a few islands the most well known being Minna-jima Island. Motobu is most well know for Ocean Expo Park home to Churaumi Aquarium that contains many marine life exhibitions the most famous being the live captive whale sharks. |

| Kunigami Village Located in the most Northern Part of Okinawa’s main island. Kunigami Village is a nature lover’s paradise and has some of the best “Eco tourism” destinations Okinawa has to offer. There are also many opportunities for camping and outdoor activities. |
