Native Okinawa village - Omoro Arboretum Okinawa, Motobu Okinawa

Set in the Ocean Expo Park is what looks like a village that time forgot. The Native Okinawa Village is a perfect replica of what life for the native inhabitants of Okinawa would have been like in the Ryukyu Kingdom before the end of the nineteenth century. Guests to the Native Okinawa Village can find traditional houses with the emblematic red tile and thatched roofs of Okinawa. Within the village are the Ugamiga (sacred springs) and the Niraikanai worship place (sacred place for the Niraikanai prayers).

A big part of the village is the plants mentioned in the Omoro Soshi, Okinawa's oldest collection of folk songs. These plants are cultivated and displayed in the Omoro Arboretum, also known as the Omoro Botanical Garden. As well as the plants mentioned in the Omoro Soshi, the garden contains about 400 species of salt-resistant plants organized into zones which include large trees, various garden plants, herbs, and more than 110 wild orchid species from the Ryukyu Islands.
