Nago Pressed Flower Contest

The only pressed flower contest in Okinawa takes place in Nago City at the already botanical crazy NEO Park. Each year the contest becomes more popular as more and more entries are received from Okinawa, near by Kyushu, and all over Japan.

The pressed flowers are usually placed in frames and from a distance resemble paintings until you get close up and realize that they are actually colorful flowers. The pressed flowers are arranged in various types of art including scenery, landscapes, plants, animals, fruit, and just about anything you could imagine.

The ability of the entries to put these flowers into art is quite amazing to see and if you have a few hours it can be worth checking out. There are also pressed flower classes held to try your hand at creating you own floral masterpiece.

Directions: From Naha, take Highway 58 north towards Nago, continue for approximately 1.5 hours. Make a left after the Makeman store and go under the cement arch at the traffic light.
