Movie Theaters

Movie theaters in Okinawa Japan are just about the same as movie theaters or cinemas anywhere in the world as far as the movie watching experience is concerned.  I guess the only thing that might be different for some movie goers is, there is no smoking in any of the theaters and the floor is not too sticky.

Many of the movie theaters in Okinawa now feature multi-screen facilities with wide screens and HD sound systems giving the movie going audience the full “Movie Theater” experience.

The most important point to mention about going to watch a movie theater in Okinawa or anywhere in Japan is the language issue. Most “Western” of “Hollywood” movies that are shown in Okinawa movie theaters are subtitled in Japanese and the spoken dialogue in kept in the original language.  However the bigger budget or more popular movies will quite often be shown in both subtitled and voice over dubbed formats. It is important to check which format the movie you are planning to watch is being shown in before you go to your favorite movie theater, pay for the ticket, sit down, and wonder why your favorite star is speaking such good Japanese.
