Maeda Misaki (Point)

One of the most popular SCUBA diving spots in Okinawa is Maeda point, attracting divers and snorkelers to its famous “blue cave” all throughout the year. Formed by Ryukyu limestone and a coral reef this area offers a diverse eco system with a large variety of ocean life.

Not far from shore there is an almost vertical drop off that goes to 60 meters / 160 feet at some points. Boats are not necessary to see some of the best parts of Maeda point. Easy shore diving is possible because of the renovation that took place in recent years allowing for easy beach access from the steps put in leading right to the dive site. This dive site is ok for divers of beginner to advanced level to attempt during most of the year.

Not far from the steps leading down to the dive site at Maeda point is a Restaurant to grab a bite to eat between dives. Also there is a seating area, showers, parking lot, and many other convenient amenities. They say if you’re only going to dive one place in Okinawa it should be Maeda point.

Directions: Take Highway 58 north past Kadena Circle, make a left at the Ryukyu Mura sign. Turn left at the second light past Ryukyu Mura. Make a right into Maeda Misaki
