Sea Turtle Museum, Kumejima Island

The Sea Turtle Museum on Kumejima Island is dedicated to the many types of Turtles found in the sea around Okinawa and all over the world. At the Sea Turtle Museum guest get the chance to observe and interact with many different types of turtles and learn about the challenges facing this interesting and ancient species.

The Sea Turtle Museum has a special program for Cheloniidae Turtles, a species on the endangered list. In 2005 the museum’s breading program succeeded in hatching five Cheloniidae Turtle eggs much to the delight of the local Kumejima people.
