Kumejima Hari -Dragon Boat Race

The traditional Hari festivals (Dragon Boat Races) held all over Okinawa were brought over from China during the Ryukyu Kingdom’s trading missions. On Kumejima Island the tradition has been kept alive for over 100 years and continues to go strong. Each year everyone from children to adults test their abilities in this fun packed event that takes place at three of Kumejima’s ports Torishima Port, GimaPort and Madomari Port. The events start at 9:00 am and continue all through the day with many other activities taking place around them like Eisa, food vendors, and music.
