Izumi Pineapple Garden, Motobu Okinawa Japan

Known as the birth place of the Okinawa pineapple the Izumi Pineapple Garden in Motobu celebrates the fact that the first pineapple trees that came from Hawaii in 1923 were planted in Motobu.

Since the pineapples first cultivation almost a century ago it has become an integral part of the Okinawa agricultural industry. Visitors to the Izumi Pineapple Garden can learn first hand how important the pineapple is to Okinawa by taking a tour of the pineapple fields, visiting the pineapple sponge cake factory, and watching videos about pineapples. Of course there are tons of free samples of fresh pineapple and different pineapple products to try so make sure you’re hungry before you go.

The Izumi Pineapple Garden also features a film on the ecology of the Habu, Okinawa’s famous poisonous snake. Besides the film visitors can witness a live snake vs mongoose show, a popular kind of tourist entertainment in Okinawa.

On the way out there is a gift shop to buy all of your pineapple related souvenirs and the restaurant attached to the park is quite good to try out some of the local Okinawa food.
