BG Ishigaki Triathlon World Cup & Ishigaki Triathlon

The BG Ishigaki Triatholon World Cup is held each year in mid April on the South half of the Island. The start and finish line is at Tonoshiro Fishing Port, not far from the largest city on the island, Ishigaki city.

This international race is a major event on Ishigaki Island as it is one of the qualifying races for potential Olympic competitors. On the same day as the as the BG Ishigaki Triathlon World Cup is the Ishigaki Triathlon, an event geared more towards amateur athletes allowing teams and individuals to enter the compitition.

All distances for both races are based on Olympic standards:

- Swim: 0.75km X 2
- Bike: 40km
- Run: 10km

The theme of the event each year is international exchange and cooperation. This spirit of global bonding is obvious by the long lasting friendships formed by athletes and spectators, something not hard to do in a place as friendly as Okinawa.

After both races each year there is always a big party put on by the kind citizens of Ishigaki-jima. The festivities are filled with live music, dancing, entertainment and of course food!
