HABU Museum Park at Okinawa World

 

The Habu Museum features the skeletons of many Habu and other snakes beautifully displayed in glass cases. There are many educational exhibitions with explanations on the problems the Habu and other ferial species cause to the natural and delicate eco system of the Okinawan Islands.

  

The reptile mini zoo is mostly located outside where the animals live in caged or glass enclosures. There are many different species of snakes and reptiles and if you are lucky you will get to see the keepers feed some of them. Some of the favorite animals here are the 100 year old giant tortoise, 4 meter long golden python and the mongoose.

 

The reptile petting zoo is located inside in a large room and has a very welcoming atmosphere. In this part of Okinawa World you can have the rare chance to pick up and hold a poisonous Habu snake, luckily the keepers ensure the visitors safety by taping the creates mouth closed. If picking up deadly creatures is not for you there are also many non lethal critters that can be handled like some of Okinawa’s native lizards of a hyper but friendly mongoose.

 

Whether you are a big snake fan nor not, a visit to the Habu Museum Park is a good education spot for kids to learn about Habu snakes. There are 6 Habu vs Mongoose shows per day

10:30, 11:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 17:00.

Each show is about 20 minutes long and no animals are harmed.
