Goedano Matsu, Kumejima Island Okinawa

goedano matsu trees

Records show that this ancient tree dates back to 1839 or possibly even much earlier. Standing only 6 meters high but with a radius of 4.3 meters it strongly resembles the largest bonsai tree ever.

Goeda Matsu was originally planted in honor of the Ryukyu harvest Gods but has since become much more than that. This tree is known as one of the most famous pine trees in Japan and many songs have been written and sung about in Okinawa folk music.

From Kumejima Airport: Approx 10 min. by car (3km)
Address: Uezu, Kumejima-cho, Shiojiri-gun, Okinawa
