Japan Night at Mariners Game

The local Japanese culture was celebrated at the annual Japan Night at the Seattle Mariners game against the Minnesota Twins at Safeco Field in Seattle on August 3rd.

The pre-game show featured a Taiko and dance performance by 80 members of Okinawa Kenjin Club of the State of Washington and Okinawa Yuai Club from Vancouver Canada. This is their second time to play at the field. A ceremonial first pitch by Tsutomu Iwamoto (a former professional pitcher of the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan) and a national anthem by Echo Chorus, a local Japanese women's chorus group.

The first 15, 000 fans in the gates also received a special Mariners cap written in Japanese.
